Nitrogen Stabilizers for Urea and UAN Fertilizers

For urea and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) fertilizers, define the nitrogen form and the intended inhibitor function before choosing a grade. NP-01, NP-02 and NP-03 have different documented roles; their specifications and dosage recommendations must be reviewed separately.

NP series selection table

Grade Inhibitor function Conversion step addressed Documented fertilizer scope
NP-01 Urease inhibition Delays urea hydrolysis; addresses ammonia volatilization. Urea and UAN.
NP-02 Nitrification inhibition Delays ammonium-to-nitrate conversion; does not replace urease inhibition. Urea and ammonium fertilizers; the TDS also lists UAN.
NP-03 Combined urease and nitrification inhibition Addresses both urea hydrolysis and ammonium-to-nitrate conversion. Urea and UAN.

This table compares documented functions, not equivalent doses or guaranteed field results. Confirm the fertilizer composition, dosage basis, addition conditions and trial criteria for each grade. NP-01 dosage remains subject to written clarification.

NP-01: urease inhibitor for urea fertilizer

NP-01 is described in its Chinese TDS as a urease inhibitor for urea and UAN, intended to delay urea hydrolysis and reduce ammonia volatilization. The source describes adding it to urea solution before granulation or blending it with finished urea. The process used at your plant requires technical confirmation.

Dosage remains subject to clarification. The source percentage and per-tonne ranges do not yet provide a consistent, confirmed recommendation. Before a trial, request written confirmation of whether the denominator is finished fertilizer, urea mass or amide nitrogen, and whether the numerator is supplied product or active ingredient. A mass percentage can only be converted to kg/t after both bases are fixed. Do not apply a single dose from this guide.

NP-02: nitrification inhibitor

NP-02 is described for urea and ammonium nitrogen fertilizers. Its published material specifications include content of 28.0-33.0 wt.% and water content no greater than 2.0%. Review the fertilizer composition and the intended nitrification-inhibition function with the technical team; the product is not interchangeable with a urease inhibitor solely because both are nitrogen stabilizers.

NP-03: combined inhibitor

NP-03 is described as a combined urease and nitrification inhibitor for urea and UAN. The published table lists active content of 34-37 wt.% and water content no greater than 3.0%. Confirm its suitability, dosage and processing conditions independently; do not infer its dosage from NP-01 or NP-02.

Prepare a formulation and process brief

  • State the fertilizer type, urea content, other nitrogen forms, physical form and intended market.
  • Describe the addition stage, product temperature, mixing equipment, contact time and planned storage conditions.
  • Request one written dosage statement with the supplied-product or active-ingredient basis and a consistent percentage-to-kg/t conversion.
  • Ask for compatibility information and an agreed pilot test. Record untreated and treated samples, analytical methods, storage duration and acceptance criteria.
  • Request evidence relevant to the claimed outcome and intended use. The public product specifications do not establish a guaranteed field response for every fertilizer or growing condition.

Product documents and samples

Product Source document Samples and technical support
NP-01 Chinese TDS NP-01 – request documents or samples
NP-02 Chinese TDS NP-02 – request documents or samples
NP-03 Chinese TDS NP-03 – request documents or samples

Original Chinese TDS are linked on each NP product page and in technical downloads. Contact the technical team with NP-01, NP-02 or NP-03 and your fertilizer composition to request English technical documentation, the applicable SDS, samples and a written trial recommendation. Keep TDS and SDS requests separate.

Nitrogen-stabilizer comparison record

  • Record fertilizer composition and separate urea, ammonium and nitrate fractions. State the model, batch, supplied-product or active-material numerator, denominator and a checked percentage-to-kg/t calculation.
  • Record addition stage, temperature, mixing/contact time and storage conditions; compare appearance, precipitation and relevant product assays using agreed methods.
  • Evaluate the claimed function for each model separately. Define the test matrix, untreated and treated samples, temperature, moisture, sampling schedule, analytical method and repeat measurements.
  • Keep ammonia-related endpoints distinct from ammonium/nitrate changes. A material specification or compatibility observation does not establish an agronomic response.

This is a proposed record template, not a test report or a production recommendation. Agree numerical doses, conditions and acceptance limits before testing. Publish an outcome only with actual results, method, conditions and an approved report reference.
