Selecting additives for a suspension concentrate starts with the active ingredient, solids loading, water quality and manufacturing process. This guide connects the documented roles of D33, XY-510 and DF520 to the information needed for a formulation trial.
Separate dispersion, suspension and foam-control decisions
- Dispersing and wetting: review D33 against particle wetting and dispersion in the actual active-ingredient system. Record particle-size and dispersion observations under the agreed preparation and dilution conditions.
- Suspension and rheology: review XY-510 and the current approved grade list for their documented roles. Record viscosity with its complete method, settling and redispersibility after specified storage; a viscosity value alone is not a complete stability result.
- Foam control: review DF520 at the actual foaming stage. Record the foam-generation method, foam level or collapse time, repeat-foaming response and compatibility with the complete formulation.
These are separate trial questions, not measured results or a requirement to combine every grade. Compare controls under the same conditions and obtain a technical recommendation for the selected formulation.
Dispersing and wetting: D33
D33 dispersant and wetting agent has documented SC use. Provide the active ingredient, target particle size, loading, existing surfactants and milling conditions when requesting a grade recommendation. Its published specifications include water content, active content, pH and specific gravity; these specifications do not by themselves demonstrate storage stability in a finished formulation.
Rheology: review XY-510 and the approved grade list
XY-510 is documented for pesticide thickening, emulsification and suspension. Select a grade through a formulation review and trials; confirm the current approved grade, test method and compatibility with the complete formulation before scale-up.
The XY-510 source lists 0.05-0.3% addition, but does not define the calculation basis. Its viscosity value above 1600 cP lacks a stated test concentration, temperature and instrument setting. Obtain those conditions before comparing values or setting a production dose.
Foam control: DF520
DF520 silicone defoamer lists aqueous agrochemical systems and suspension concentrates as applications. The source permits direct addition or dilution with water. It does not set a numerical dose, dilution ratio, mixer speed or addition stage. Request a trial procedure matched to the actual foaming stage.
Agree a test plan before scale-up
- Record active ingredient identity and content, water hardness, formulation pH, raw material batches and temperature.
- Confirm each additive dose, whether it refers to supplied product or active material, and the denominator used for the percentage.
- Agree addition order, hydration or dilution steps, mixing time and milling conditions with the technical team.
- Define acceptance criteria for particle size, viscosity under a specified method, settling, redispersibility, foam and storage stability before testing.
- Compare an untreated control with trial formulations and record storage duration and conditions. Request any existing relevant test report; do not transfer a result from another active ingredient without validation.

SC comparison record: separate each additive function
- D33: record active ingredient and batch, loading, initial particle size, water composition, preparation and milling conditions. Measure particle-size distribution with the same method.
- XY-510: record the complete viscosity method, sample concentration and hydration, settling, sediment compactness and redispersion after the same storage schedule.
- DF520: record sample volume, temperature, foam-generation method, foam height or collapse time and repeat-foaming response; check appearance and separation.
- Define an untreated control, any existing additive package, the single change made in each comparison, repeat samples and acceptance criteria before testing.
This is a proposed record template, not a test report or a production recommendation. Agree numerical doses, conditions and acceptance limits before testing. Publish an outcome only with actual results, method, conditions and an approved report reference.
