Suspending Agent for Liquid Fertilizers

A suspending agent for liquid fertilizers helps maintain a uniform distribution of particles, nutrients or insoluble components during manufacture, storage and application. Selection should start with the fertilizer type, solids loading, particle size, pH, ionic strength and mixing equipment.

When to evaluate a suspending agent

Consider this function when the system shows sedimentation, separation, poor redispersion or viscosity changes during storage. The goal is not to increase viscosity without limit: the product must retain flow, pumpability and application performance.

  • Liquid fertilizers containing suspended solids or micronutrients.
  • Formulations that need stability during storage and transport.
  • Systems in which sedimentation changes the applied concentration.

Information needed for grade selection

Provide the fertilizer composition, solids concentration, pH, density, process and storage temperature, dilution water and equipment. Compatibility with salts, wetting agents, defoamers and other additives must also be confirmed.

Recommended trial plan

  1. Prepare an untreated control and samples with levels defined by the technical team.
  2. Record addition order, mixing speed and time, temperature and vessel used.
  3. Measure viscosity using the agreed method, temperature and concentration.
  4. Observe sedimentation, separation, redispersion, foam and appearance after the defined storage period.

Dosage and limitations

Dosage depends on the actual composition and the approved calculation basis. Do not use a general percentage without confirming whether it is calculated on supplied product, solids, liquid phase or total formulation. Ask the technical team for the starting point, addition method and acceptance criteria for your system.

Documentation and technical support

Review the formulation guides and the product range. For grade selection, request technical support and a sample and state the fertilizer, destination market and trial conditions. The TDS, SDS and compatibility results must match the confirmed model and revision.

Match the grade to the physical problem

Identify the observed problem before requesting a grade. These source-based routes do not establish a common dose or guaranteed outcome.

  • Settling of intentionally suspended solids: review XY-410 suspending agent. Its existing English TDS lists fertilizer suspensions; confirm actual solids, salt compatibility, viscosity method and redispersion requirements.
  • Crystals appearing from a dissolved nutrient solution: review CI-40 crystallization inhibitor with the salt composition, concentration and a defined cooling/storage comparison.
  • Dry granule caking in packaging: review K100 anti-caking agent and dry surface-treatment conditions separately from liquid stability.

Existing English documents: XY-410 TDS; CI-40 TDS. Confirm the approved revision, method and dose basis for the selected model. Request a separate SDS.
